| Description | Foaled on a stud farm near Timaru in 1926, and raised and raced in Australia, Phar Lap won various races during the Depression era, in Australia and in Mexico and was a national icon for both New Zealand and Australia. The distribution of his remains reflects the claims on him by both countries: his heart and his hide went to Australia and his skeleton came back to New Zealand and are displayed at Te Papa. |
