Mataafa and chiefs in a group outside a fale, Samoa. Thomas Andrew was a New Zealand photographer who lived in Samoa from 1891. He created a series of studio portraits of Pacific peoples and documented the conflict between the colonial powers of Britain, Germany, and the United States around 1900.
